Our Origin Story

Two Families. Five Kids. One Mission.

Five Little Monkeys was formed by two families — including their five children (that's where the name comes from!). We started this company because we saw an industry full of shortcuts: aging equipment, weekend-warrior operators, and rental companies that treated safety as an afterthought. We knew families deserved better.

This isn't a side gig or a weekend hustle. Five Little Monkeys is a dedicated, full-time, professional operation — our focus, all day, all week, and all year. We're licensed by the State of Michigan, fully insured, and actively involved in our local communities, from coaching youth sports to volunteering at school and church events.

When we make a decision about equipment, cleaning, staffing, or setup procedures, we always start with the same question: "Would we be comfortable putting our own kids on this?" If the answer isn't an immediate yes, we don't do it. Period.

Safety First Always

1 – Watchdog Series 2 Blower Siren: This blower siren was designed in 2018 to detect air loss caused by power loss to the blower, child mischief, or even a major rip/tear in the bounce house or other inflatable rental, sounding a loud alarm to make sure attendants are immediately aware. ASTM requires these for any inflatable with a slide platform over 8' tall — but we offer them free of charge with all of our inflatable slides, obstacle courses, and larger inflatable rentals.

2 – Non-Slip Safety Mats: ASTM and SIOTO recommend that all bounce house and inflatable rental entrances/exits have 2" foam non-slip safety mats extending 4' in each direction — slips, trips, and falls are most common here. All of our bounce house and inflatable rentals include these safety mats free of charge.

3 – Sufficient Ground Anchoring: ASTM has written highly technical guidelines for anchoring inflatables, and some rental crews take shortcuts by skipping critical anchor points to save a few minutes. ALL anchor points on EVERY inflatable should be secured using at least 18" steel stakes — we never skip them.

4 – Safe Entrances / Exits: Many older inflatables have unsafe entrance ramps, or none at all. Always look for inflatables with entrance ramps featuring safety rails or, better yet, tunnel entrances like the one shown here. We include 2" foam non-slip safety mats at all entrances/exits — free of charge.

5 – Finger-Safe Mesh Windows: To better supervise your little jumpers, your bounce house should have sufficient meshed window walls. More importantly, the mesh should be finger-safe — small enough to prevent little fingers from getting caught or tangled, which could result in broken fingers or sprains.

6 – Covered Roofs with Egress Ports: Bounce houses without covered roofs can tempt kids to climb up and out — almost all new designs now feature covered roofs. Ensure the roof also has an egress port (emergency exit) in the unlikely event the unit unexpectedly deflates and a secondary exit is needed.

7 – Covered Slide Platforms: ASTM has issued guidelines requiring all slide platforms be covered — many older designs had open platforms where kids could fall or jump off. The covered slide platform is now the industry norm. All of our inflatable slide rentals feature enclosed slide platforms.

8a – Soft & Contained Slide Landing Area: Inflatable slides should have a soft, 18–24" deep inflatable landing area base surrounded by containment walls for a safe landing.

8b – Water Slide Landing Areas: Our newer water slide designs keep water accumulation in the splash landing area to a maximum of 4" deep, using an inflated base as a cushion — reducing drowning risk. Some states have already started cracking down on deep landing pools.

Licensed & Fully Insured

We are licensed by the State of Michigan and carry full commercial liability insurance for every bounce house, water slide, obstacle course, and party rental in our fleet. This isn't optional for us — it's the foundation of operating responsibly.

Many rental operators in Michigan work without proper licensing or let their insurance lapse between seasons. Others run as weekend side gigs with no formal business structure. We operate year-round as a registered LLC with current, verifiable coverage — because your family's event is not the place to cut corners.

If a rental company can't show you proof of current insurance before your event, walk away. We'll provide ours gladly — just ask.
02

ASTM Compliant & Beyond

The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) sets the national safety guidelines for inflatable amusement devices. We don't just meet these standards — we use them as our starting point and build upward.

Every inflatable is evaluated against ASTM guidelines covering anchoring, slide platforms, entrance safety, mesh windows, roof egress ports, and landing areas:

🔩
18" Steel StakesEvery anchor point on every inflatable is secured — no shortcuts.
🚪
Safe Tunnel EntrancesSafety rails on all entry/exit ramps prevent falls off the sides.
🪟
Finger-Safe MeshOpenings are sized to prevent little fingers from getting tangled.
🏠
Covered Roofs + EgressEnclosed roofs prevent climbing out, with emergency exits built in.
⛷️
Enclosed Slide PlatformsAll platforms are fully covered — no open areas where kids could fall.
🛬
Contained Landings18–24" inflatable bases with containment walls for safe landings.

Watchdog Alarm Systems

Every inflatable slide, obstacle course, and larger rental in our fleet is equipped with a Watchdog Series 2 Blower Siren — an alarm designed to detect air loss in inflatables caused by power failure, tampering, or tears.

When triggered, the Watchdog sounds a loud siren immediately so attendants can respond within seconds — before a slow deflation becomes a safety issue.

ASTM only requires blower sirens for inflatables with slide platforms over 8 feet tall. We include them free on all of our larger rentals — because every inflatable deserves the same level of protection.

We also include ASTM-approved, 2-inch thick non-slip foam safety mats at every entrance and exit, extending 4 feet in each direction — at no extra charge.

04

Sanitized & Deep-Cleaned

Call us obsessive, but we wouldn't rent anything that hasn't been properly cleaned before AND after every single use. That's not an exaggeration — it's our standard operating procedure.

Every rental is deep-cleaned either on-site or in our dedicated warehouse — large enough to fully inflate units indoors for a thorough cleaning. After cleaning, we spray-sanitize every surface before it goes back out.

During every warehouse cleaning cycle, we also run a full damage inspection and log any maintenance findings. No product goes out for rental with any unresolved issues. No shortcuts. No exceptions.

We leave a spray bottle of SimpleGreen with every rental so you can give your inflatable a safe wipe-down during your event if needed.
05

SIOTO-Trained Staff

At least one employee overseeing every customer setup has been trained internally in accordance with SIOTO — the Safe Inflatable Operators Training Organization — for the safe setup and operation of bounce houses and all inflatable rentals.

Unlike many competitors, we do not use outside contractors or third-party staff to deliver, set up, or pick up our rentals. Every person who shows up to your event is part of our team — because that's the only way we can consistently maintain the level of care our families expect.

Our staff are expected to be uniformed, courteous, knowledgeable, and all-around great representatives of the families behind Five Little Monkeys.
06

Newest Equipment in the Industry

The average age of our inventory is approximately two years — compared to industry norms of 5 to 10 years. That means you're getting newer, cleaner, and structurally safer inflatables with every rental.

We reinvest a significant portion of revenues every year to maintain one of the newest inflatable fleets in the industry, nationwide. Older legacy equipment often lacks modern safety features like covered slide platforms, finger-safe mesh, and proper landing areas — our fleet doesn't have that problem.

Our suppliers are reputable, U.S.-based companies, including multiple Michigan-based businesses. Yes, it costs more — but we believe your family is worth it.

07

Weather Safety & Worry-Free Cancellations

Michigan weather is unpredictable — and we take that seriously. Inflatables should never be operated in high winds, heavy rain, or thunderstorms. We reserve the right to cancel any reservation we deem unsafe due to severe weather conditions, because no event is worth risking your family's safety.

That's why we created our Worry-Free Cancellation Policy: a 100% refund for cancellations made up to 24 hours before your event. No hassle, no guilt, no lost deposits.

If anything unexpected happens during your rental — even after hours — you can reach our Active Rental Support team 24/7 by calling 833-5-LITTLE (833-554-8853), extension 3.

Safety First Always

1- Watchdog Series 2 Blower Siren: This blower siren was designed in 2018 to detect air loss caused by power loss to the blower, child mischief, or even a major rip/tear in the bounce house or other inflatable rental, sounding a loud alarm to make sure attendants are immediately aware. ASTM (American Society of Testing & Materials) requires these for any inflatable with a slide platform over 8' tall, given the tip-over risk associated with the unexpected deflation of an inflatable slide unit, but we offer them - free of charge - with all of our inflatable slides, obstacle courses, and other larger inflatable rentals.

2- Non-Slip Safety Mats: ASTM (American Society of Testing & Materials) and SIOTO (Safe Inflatable Operators Training Organization) recommend that, even on grass setups, all bounce house and inflatable rental entrances/exits have 2" foam non-slip safety mats extending 4' in each direction, as slips/trips/falls are most common here. The surfaces of these mats should be non-slip, especially in the case of water slides. All of our bounce house and other inflatable rentals include these safety mats - free of charge!

3- Sufficient Ground Anchoring: ASTM (American Society of Testing & Materials) has written highly technical guidelines for manufacturers regarding the anchoring of inflatables, and almost all manufacturers now abide by these. However, some party rental setup crews take shortcuts here, by skipping some critical anchor points to save a few minutes. ALL anchor points on EVERY inflatable should be secured using at least 18" steel stakes – do not accept shortcuts!

4- Safe Entrances / Exits: Many older inflatables have unsafe entrance ramps, or none at all. Always look for bounce house and other inflatable rentals with entrance ramps, and ensure that these ramps have safety rails or, better yet, tunnel entrances like the one shown in the picture. Even with entrance/exit ramps that feature tunnels or safety rails, always ensure that 2" foam non-slip safety mats are placed to cover 4' in every direction of each entrance/exit - we include these - free of charge - with all of our ride-in/ride-on inflatable rentals.

5- Finger-Safe Mesh Windows: To better supervise your little jumpers, it's important that your bounce house rental has sufficient meshed window walls. More importantly, the mesh utilized in these window walls (and in other areas such as covered slide platforms) should be finger-safe; that is, small enough to not allow little fingers to get caught/tangled in the mesh, which could result in broken fingers or sprains.

6- Covered Roofs with Egress Ports: Bounce house rentals (and other inflatable rentals with bounce areas) without covered roofs can be tempting for little ones to climb up and out of – almost all new designs now have covered roofs. Also, ensure that the roof has an egress port (emergency exit) in the unlikely event the unit unexpectedly deflates and a secondary exit is required.

7- Covered Slide Platforms: ASTM (American Society for Testing & Materials) has issued guidelines requiring that all slide platforms be covered, and for good reason! Many older designs had open slide platforms where kids could fall (or more adventurous kids would attempt to jump) from the slide platform. The simple fix of having a covered slide platform is now the industry norm – all of our inflatable slide rentals feature enclosed slide platforms!

8a- Soft and Contained Slide Landing Area: Inflatable slides should have a soft, 18-24" deep inflatable slide landing area base, surrounded by inflatable containment walls, to ensure a soft landing for participants and keep them from sliding off the end of the slide and onto the ground.

8b- Inflatatable Water Slide Landing Areas: Our newer (safer) water slide designs keep water accumulation in the splash landing area to a maximum of 4" deep, instead utilizing an inflated base as a cushion (to reduce the potential for a drowning risk). Some states have already started to crack down on deep landing pools, such as Ohio.
